Years ago (back in 2003) I had random cut out problem. The car would run fine, but at times cut out and it felt like I had no throttle pedal. The car was just go into idle mode. Often it would do that for a second and then come right back.
After much looking at the car I swapped the AFM and the problem was solved. My issue had been worn tracks on the AFM. Over time the wiper arms which attach to the vane in the AFM can wear a groove in base connection. Once worn too deep you lose signal of air in take on the AFM and the car defaults to idle inspite of throttle position. The solution was to bend the wiper arms to run in a fresh part of the AFM that had not been worn down.
FR Wilk's website has a proceedure to bench test the AFM and bend the wipers.
