I like these changes.

Re: 2011 Change Proposals - New Allowances (4 Items) 14 years ago #8523

Since some of my guys are emailing me on this rather than posting, I'll copy it here:

This rule does not define what happens under the rear fender flare. Can I cut the old fender for clearance? If so how much? Can I chain saw it all the pieces and then bolt on the fiberglass flares, thereby dropping some weight? The last sentence needs to specify 944 steel FRONT fenders.

The first line, All 87 and 924S chassis... shouldn't it read; All 87 and up 924s chassis....

This brings up the point that we need to not only consider the intended consequences of the rule change, but how it can be manipulated...

The statement that this is not simple or cheap in reality is concerning. Seeing as how the thrid place car a Nationals was 924S, it seems that they can compete as is.

I agree with the above statement. The 924S platform is competative as is, and the lack of track width could be looked at as offset by the better areo.

I approve of -1 -2 and -4 but not -3

Agree with the folks who agree with 1, 2, and 4; but not 3 924S flares.

To quote a famous lady, you have sized your series 'just right'. Leaving out the 2.7 motors but allowing all the 2.5s was the way to go. Relatively few 2.7 out there and likewise relatively few 924S. Even fewer 924S with flares ALREADY so you are not cheating the series of entries by sticking with stock bodies for the 924S. New entries can decide up front which car to get. The 944 is by far the more common.

As has already been said those S running seem to be doing OK. Even in Cup one of the faster cars on the track has been a 924S with minimal prep (put the oem manifold back and it could run Spec). The driver - uh - drives!!

For perspective I do LIKE the appearance of the 924S.

Yes on 2 and NO on everything else.

The 924s is the car to have in my opion there is definetly no disadvantage to racing one. It does weight less and it does have better aero IMO. Opening up the flares will just create more combinations of SPEC. If you don't like the looks of the 924s then drive the 944.

Absolutely NO reason to allow a 3 piece cross member. I thought this was SPEC racing. I have never had the luxury of having a hoist. I do all my engine swaps on the ground. This only increases the cost and has no real benefit to the group.

Again no real reason to replace side glass with lexan. There is no breakage issue or shortage of glass available. Air can easily be brought in using a NACA duct on either side of the car at the leading edge of the door window openings. Are we just making new rules for the fun of it?
