No problem with that shift lever as I think it is beefier and wouldn't affect the throw of the lever but what we're really looking at is the linkage back at the transaxle as a fix for that sloppiness hasn't been addressed in the rules as of yet.

Take a look at this link: only944.com/partscatalog/only/shortshifter/

Gotcha, that makes sense and I'd be in favor of that as well. Currently the rules are specific about the shifter brand so if we decide to make the change to allow the short shifter I think the shift lever should be open to any brand:

Current rule:
14.3.1 Transmission shift linkage may be modified to remove slop or to repair worn components.
The length of the shift lever and the distance of throw of the shifter may not be modified. “Short
Shifters” are not allowed. The shift lever (only) from Only 944’s is considered an acceptable

I disagree with parts being "open", we are a spec class allowing open parts which could affect performance goes beyond that, if we open this up to any option where do we stop. Let's stick with a given part just like we do with shocks etc.

As FDJeremy pointed out to me there are two different parts being discussed. The short shifter part that goes on the transmission itself and the shifter up front. With regards to the shifter I'm thinking these two parts are equivalent:

www.9xauto.com/porsche-944-968-custom-shifter/

There may be others that would work as well so leaving this "open" wouldn't affect performance if we decide to adopt the short shifter.

Yes, exactly where does it stop?

Why not just run GTS1? Or 944Cup?

You can do all those things you want and let the Spec guys drive Spec cars.

I would also like to propose that all cars have the same maximum revs. It is about time to do away with the hard to get 88 DME that only a few have.

Reduces cost and makes cars more equal.

I have an '88 with stock DME; that's all I have so that doesn't reduce cost for me.
