TOPIC: Painless Wiring

Re: Painless Wiring 12 years, 6 months ago #13128

Thank you guys so much for the photos. They really help me with planning my design. I like how you both have slightly different approaches to the same solution. I also really like both dash setups you have.

My car is currently gutted and caged and it's like a blank sheet of paper waiting to for a masterpiece to be drawn on it.. can't wait to have a nice clean simple wiring setup and get rid of that 30 year old mess of german spaghetti.

I think I am going to go with the 50001 race car fuse block that includes the wiring, but I also think I am going to source my own switches. I'm not 100% sold on their switch panels, and they do seem a bit pricey.

First here is a great link with lots of ideas.
www.terminaltown.com/Pages/Page207.html

There are many switches to choose from. Cole Hersey is probably the best brand you can buy. You can call my friend at the local nascar shop. He has a ton of switches.
Couple of things i would and may still do differently.
I would like my dash to cover the front completely. I liked that it has some shape to it and not just flat and square. Currently i am having a guy looking at doing a full dash from carbon fiber. Then maybe i will put some switches on a panel just in front of the shifter. Who knows. Still waiting for my first DE. Getting weekends off is really tough for me right now. But i have made plans for a Kershaw weekend June16/17.

Here are a couple links that i came across. Didn't use them but almost...

We can use a painless harness? I thought the rules state that you have to use the factory harness.

Yes we are allowed to replace the harness. I would not swap out the engine harness though. It is well built and seems to be trouble free. The main reason to replace the factory harness is to loose weight.
The Painless system is very high quality wires and components. I have one in my car and it works great.
I have a wire diagram I can email to you that I got from Steve in nor-Cal.
Very easy to do if you have basic skills.

Oh hell yeah!! I have a lot of experience with painless, had them in two other builds, as well as a street car. Excellent, I get to make my own switch panel, please email it, thanks in advance.
