Jason,
Extra cost is definable in many ways. The cost of the cross member would be extra cost, but only to those who it would represent a cost savings over time. For those of us who have to pay for alignments, it represents a HUGE cost savings. For those who have to pay someone to replace rod bearings or pan gaskets, it also represents a large long term cost savings. As it does NOT represent a performance advantage, those who do not want to pay for it, do not have to.
Also, I would not require it to be a Lindsey piece. It can be made from a stock one with little or no cost, and if you use proper bolts and lock nuts, should not cause any concern about safety.
Just my $.02
