The power cap may well change things, but for the most part we still want to keep Spec rules intact to maintain the power curve as is. Tight engine build rules + power cap = more equal.

My concern about the head thickness rule is that there are alot of cars in the So-Cal region that were built by Rusikov. The head on most of these cars were shaved just under the minimum thickness no in place. It requires a custom gasket or a different head for a .004 measurement differential.

This does not equate into the lower cost racing mantra we hear so much about.

A 1.4mm head gasket costs $83, about $20 more than a standard one at Pelican.
I'm pretty cheap, but the hardship angle is lost on me here .
How much does Steve charge for heads these days?

If it's an illegal head, then it's illegal for racing... just like those game changing headlight covers.

I have no idea what a head costs from Steve. The last two cars I bought in So Cal had Rusikov motors. Both motors had heads that were too thin for the current rules but made the compression maximum as measured at the 2010 Nats.

Yes the 1.3mm gasket will work but will not optimize the compression. So instead of cutting the head more I had a custom gasket made to the exact thickness I wanted.

The head installed on the car meets the minimum thickness requirements. I have had this approved by our leader in an email conversation. That is one of the reasons for eliminating the head thickness rulesas well as the compression rule. The HPcap makes these rules obsolete.

I would rather detune the car with exhaust, oil or FQS it is cheaper than trying to add HP after the fact.

OK, we're getting into the weeds here on our Nationals thread. This is a good conversation, but one to have during rules change season.

Carry on!
