Good example! I've learned to prioritize very close racing in corners for exactly the reason you said. I remember going through 6 at Sonoma with Rick, side by side so close you couldn't fit paper between us. I could see his hands correcting the wheel out of the corner of my eye and I was sure we were touching. When we got out of the cars, not a mark on them. One of the worst things you can do is leave "room" for the other guy to get head of steam prior to a collision.

Eric, I reviewed my video after the event and the conclusions I came to regarding my errors were very similar to the comments you made on the situation. That said I appreciate the evaluation of the video and the posting. It can be useful to others to see the mistake I made and learn from it along with someone from the outside making an unbiased evaluation.
