TOPIC: Thanks for the torsion bars, now stay behind me!

Thanks for the torsion bars, now stay behind me! 13 years, 6 months ago #10565

Thunderhill this weekend turned out to be an interesting one for me. When I rolled the car out of the trailer, it was sitting on the right rear wheel. After jacking it up, it was clear I had zero spring rate on the right rear. Hmmm, it had a spring when it went on the trailer.

After disassembly, I found I had broken a torsion bar clean in half. I'll post a picture later but it looks like corrosion started it.

Ron Dale is the man! I called everybody and finally got a hold of Ron who turned back to home 45 minutes out and fought traffic half the night to bring me a stock set of bars. On top of that, he refused to accept anything, even gas money, for the effort. I got everything buttoned up Saturday morning with Jerry's help and made Sat qualifying. Handling was...interesting...but at least I got a weekend.

Thanks to Rick's blown engine (sorry Rick) and a great jump on the start, I managed a win Sunday with Ron on my bumper looking at his torsion bars the whole way.

This is what our racing is all about. Thanks everyone, especially Ron and Kim for going above and beyond to bring the bars.

Not to mention you doing a torsion bar change in the Paddock. I had a large number of the PRC guys tell me how impressed they were with you doing that in the time you did.

Thanks for the kind words Steve, it was great racing with you as well! You drove the snot out of that wounded car, I was very impressed! Two second place finishes are still great when I can finish close to you or Rick.

The video is out of focus(it's focused on the rollcage instead) but gives a great view of the fun! But for a couple of those 911's I had you! I'm not sure why the car that had spun and was a lap down decided to dive bomb me into 10 when you and I were fighting for a win and were just a foot apart, and then didn't clear you for almost half a lap which gathered a few more cars between us! I guess he had a reason. I still would have had a tough time passing you anyway though.

I'll try to get the video online but the camera doesn't seem compatible with my mac. If you want I can send you the camera so you can view/download it yourself.

Sorry to hear about your troubles and Rick's issues, but Ron's Dales effort to get you parts is a big factor in our racing class. It truely sets us appart form everyone else. It makes be proud to be a part of this class. Over the the years I too have had my spare parts beat me and had other guys spares help me beat them.

I would never have expected such a failure. Another reason to carry more spares.

OK, now for the real information. How in the heck did you get the broken inside part of the bar out of the tube AT THE TRACK????????? That information needs to be posted in the trouble shooting section because I did not think it would be possible to get it out without removing the entire torsion tube assembly from the car.

Great job to get the car on the track.

Oh yes, someone please "re-set" Rick's setup overnight to slow him down some.
